Revealing The Meaning:

Placing Objects in Context

XRF and tankard-Winterthur Library Revealed

Resources from the Winterthur Library—manuscripts, photographs, rare books, and ephemera—help us to understand objects in the museum collection. Through their study, we can answer the questions why, when, and how. By looking at library materials relating to two specific drinking vessels, a teapot and a tankard, we can discover much about the societies that made, sold, and used those objects.  Scientific analysis provides information on chemical compositions of objects which solve answers on materials and dates.
